Southern California is my homeland, and after my own tremendous need for support and the generous outpouring I received last year, has inspired me to give back to my local community in its time of need.

How does a girl from Des Moines, Iowa end up in the City of Angels?

I moved to Southern California just before 9/11. While I lived in the OC for a few years, as soon as I could, I moved up to Los Angeles where I met my husband Alex (2002) and Kombucha (2003) all within the span of a year.

However, my ancestry here goes several generations as my mother was born and raised in the OC before her family uprooted to follow their pastor to Iowa where she met my father and voila – Hannah Ruhamah Crum was born!

Growing up in the Midwest & Chicago, I didn’t realize that the coconuts (brown and hairy) and avocadoes were echoes of my mothers’ upbringing. While they are ubiquitous today, in the early 80’s they were an exotic treat. My ancestors are buried in Compton, South Gate, Riverside and beyond. So while I didn’t grow up here, California is in my DNA.

Blessed to Be Able to Help

Alex & I are blessed that where we live was untouched by the blaze unlike so many of our fellow citizens and acquaintances. Yes, we are increasing our lung support with various herbs and supplements as we are impacted by the air quality. Yes, I am pursuing a position in the Federal Government as an outgrowth of our mission and my committement to the future generations – Mamma to all! Yes, we are still recoupoing from our own losses from COVID and algorithm changes out of our control. AND we can also share because every bit counts.
